Traditionally the area was part of Styria. It is now included in the Carinthia Statistical Region.〔(Vuzenica municipal site )〕 The local church from which the settlement gets its name is dedicated to John the Baptist ((スロベニア語:sveti Janez Krstnik) or ''Šentjanž'') and belongs to the Parish of Vuzenica.
